The goal of the RSP is to reduce the overall training pipeline loss rate by creating a strong foundation of training that allows the recruit the ability to achieve success while attending IET and providing the parent unit a Soldier who is MOS-qualified.

The ARNG Recruit Sustainment Program prepares ARNG Warriors for the successful completion of BCT and subsequent MOS qualification. It indoctrinates them through training focused at the top five reasons that Warriors are lost in the Training Pipeline, provides full visibility on the preparation process and ensures they ship to BCT mentally prepared, physically ready and administratively correct.

It also promotes integration of the RRC, the RSP Warrior and potential applicants, facilitates lead generation and conversion, and reinforces the benefits of ARNG service as well as the opportunities offered for education during concurrent service in the RSP.

RSP Objectives

The RSP indoctrinates ARNG Warriors with the skills required to successfully MOS qualify and return to their units; fit, trained and ready to deploy in support of the ARNG mission by ensuring all Soldiers are:

  • Mentally prepared
  • Administratively correct
  • Physically fit

Accreditation Imperatives:

  • Recruiting and Retention Command Ownership
  • Prepotency from Enlistment through Duty MOS Qualification / Battle Hand-off
  • Mandatory Recruit Drilling
  • Use of SEAR Curriculum
  • Use of Vulcan RSP Database
  • Compulsory Physical Training Program
  • RSP Soldier Vulcan Disposition (minimum of 95%)
  • Transportation Coordination and Execution

New warriors will progress through different phases of Soldier Empowerment and Readiness (SEAR) training while attending the RSP Course:

  • Red Phase is the trainees' first drill weekend with the Recruit Sustainment Program. Because they are completely new to the Guard at this point, Red Phase weekends are spent mostly in the classroom, covering basic subject's new recruits need to know right away.
  • White Phase varies in length but covers the period between their first drill weekend and the drill weekend before they ship.
  • Blue Phase is the final drill before shipping and covers what the shipper should expect, both at Reception Battalion and BCT.
  • Green Phase is for warriors in the Split Training Option (STO). These warriors will return from BCT and drill with the RSP until they go to AIT. Since they have already experienced Basic Training, these warriors are groomed as junior cadre and given additional physical readiness training and leadership training.
